Satisfactory Guide: How To Set Up Multiplayer

Want to play Satisfactory with other people online? Here is a very simple guide on how to set up Multiplayer in Satisfactory.

Satisfactory is all about automating machines to create massive, highly-complex production lines. While any challenge it throws at you can be tackled completely solo, things get a lot more fun when you add more players into the mix.

Thankfully, there’s a cooperative mode that allows you to play Satisfactory with other people online, with no hard limit on the number of players you can invite (the game officially supports up to four). This includes cross-platform multiplayer across both Steam and Epic Games.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up multiplayer in Satisfactory and start building with your friends online.

How To Set Up Multiplayer In Satisfactory

Satisfactory Tips

The method for setting up multiplayer will vary depending on if you’re the host player or joining someone else’s session.

Before deciding, remember that any progress you make during a multiplayer session is tied to the host player’s save file. Additionally, while Satisfactory doesn’t feature PvP, there is still friendly fire.

How To Host A Session In Satisfactory

To host a session, first load into your saved game, then open the menu and select ‘Manage Session.’ Here, you can change the session type to ‘Friends Only’ to let your friends join. If you set the session to ‘Private,’ then only the people you invite will be able to join.

To send an invite, select ‘Copy to Clipboad’ to copy the Session ID and send it to whoever you would like to join. Note that Satisfactory currently doesn’t support public sessions, and since the game is still in Early Access, you may encounter some bugs and performance issues during online multiplayer.

How To Join A Session In Satisfactory

To join another player’s session, you’ll have to either have them added as a friend on Steam or Epic Games, or obtain their Session ID. If the session is set to ‘Friends Only,’ then you can join by selecting the session from the main menu.

If the session is set to ‘Private,’ your only option is to start up the game and enter the Session ID manually from the main menu. Note that to enable cross-play, Steam users will have to connect their Steam account to their Epic Games account when presented with a prompt.

Setting Up Multiplayer With More Than Four Players

Satisfactory Beginner Tips and Tricks

In the event you want to team up with more than four players in a single session, you’ll have to edit Satisfactory’s configuration settings.

The host player must navigate to the following file directory:

%localappdata%\FactoryGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Game.ini

From there, add the following lines to the end of the .ini file:

[/Script/Engine.GameSession]
MaxPlayers=X

Once that’s done, launch the game and start up a new session. Anyone on your Friends list or with the Session ID should be able to join.
